St. Columba's is hoping to hold this 5-week study some time in 2024. If you are interested please contact Christine Muise or Judy Fyles to express your interest. Each week there there will be a chapter or two (10-15 pages) of reading ahead of time and a number of questions to ponder and discuss at the meeting time which will be about 1.5 hours.
“Just because I am counted old in years
It doesn’t mean my fiery heart’s grown cold
Grow old along with me!
The last of life for which the first was made.”
(Robert Browning poet)
Generative aging is the name of the 5 week course, generative being an affirmation of aging as an adventure that reaches for deepened meaning and fresh purpose. Endings come with the aging years but endings also create space for life to be re-imagined and re-purposed.
Come ready to challenge dated mind sets and all too familiar ‘cow paths’. Come ready also to feel oneself to be on a threshold of a new kind of ‘liminal’ space, a waiting, creative space between ‘what was and the not yet.’ Come ready to share thoughts and feelings about what it means ‘to be old’ and then to lean into the poet’s belief that ‘for The last of life…. the first was made.’
