It has come to our attention that people associated with St. Columba's Church recently received an email purportedly from Christine Muise asking them to contact her by email reply as she was not able to be reached by phone or that she needed help or needed money (gift cards). This is a phishing scam. Her email address if you hovered over it was not Christine's email address: cmuise(at)bc.anglican.ca but various other emails with an overlay with her name showing. We are working to determine if there is any additional ways we can prevent this from happening in the future. However this is unfortunately becoming quite common within churches.
Please be aware that Christine is always available via her work cell phone (contact her if you have need of her cell number) as well as the church phone during her office hours or messages left on the church phone at any time.
In addition, any official email communication from other staff or volunteers at St. Columba's will have an email address ending with (at)stcolumbaporthardy.ca.
The Diocese has produced a quick info sheet specifically about phishing as it relates to clergy and other staff around the Diocese. It is attached below and is also found on our bulletin board at the church.
