THE GATHERING OF THE COMMUNITY

Call to Worship
In this time of worship may we know the truth of God’s love for us.
In this time of worship may we know the truth of God’s kingdom and commit to be God’s loyal citizens.
May Christ reign in our hearts and in our lives.
May we bear his love, his peace, and his justice to the world.

*Hymn: VU 213 Rejoice, the Lord Is King

Rejoice the Lord is King!
Your risen Lord adore!
Rejoice, give thanks and sing
and triumph evermore.
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice:
rejoice; again I say, rejoice.

Jesus the Saviour reigns,
the God of truth and love;
when he had purged our sins,
he took his seat above.
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice:
rejoice; again I say, rejoice.

God's kingdom cannot fail;
Christ rules o'er earth and heaven;
the keys of death and hell
are to our Jesus given.
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice:
rejoice; again I say, rejoice.

Rejoice in glorious hope,
for Christ, the judge, shall come
to glorify the saints
for their eternal home.
We soon shall hear the archangel's voice;
the trump of God shall sound, rejoice!

Opening Prayer
Majestic God, every Sunday we recite the Lord’s prayer saying, “
Your Kingdom Come”.
May your kingdom come in our lives, for we need your transformation.
May your kingdom come in our church, for we need your presence.
May your kingdom come in our homes, for we need your love.
May your kingdom come in our world, for we need your justice.
Help us to become and remain your loyal citizens, and your faithful ambassadors to other kingdoms of this world.
In the name of Christ we pray, whose reign within your kingdom we celebrate.
Amen.

THE PROCLAMATION OF THE WORD
Hutlilala’s! Listen deeply as Scripture is proclaimed.

Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14
...The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Psalm 132:1-12 VU 855 Part One
Refrain: Arise, O God, make this the place wherein your name shall dwell.
O God, remember David and all the hardships he endured,
how he swore an oath to you, A promise to the Mighty One of Jacob.
I will not enter my house, nor will I climb into bed, I will not give sleep to my eyes, not even let my eyelids droop
until I find a place for God, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.
R: Arise, O God, make this the place wherein your name shall dwell.

At Ephrathah we heard God’s ark was there; we found it in the region of Jaar.
Let us approach the place where the Most High rests, let us kneel in worship at God’s footstool.
Arise, O God, and enter your resting place, you and your mighty ark.
Let your priests be clothed with righteousness, let your faithful people shout for joy.
R: Arise, O God, make this the place wherein your name shall dwell.

For your servant David’s sake, do not reject your Anointed.
You made a sure promise to David, a promise that will never be revoked:
One of your own children I will set upon your throne.
And if they in turn keep my covenant, the teaching that I give them, their descendants too shall sit on your throne in succession forever.
R: Arise, O God, make this the place wherein your name shall dwell.

Revelation 1:4b-8
…The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

*Hymn: VU 211 Crown Him with Many Crowns

Crown him with many crowns,
the Lamb upon his throne:
hark, how the heavenly anthem drowns
all music but its own!
Awake, my soul, and sing
of him who died for thee,
and hail him as thy matchless King
through all eternity.

Crown him the Lord of life,
who triumphed o'er the grave,
and rose victorious in the strife
for those he came to save.
His glories now we sing
who died and rose on high,
who died eternal life to bring,
and lives that death may die.

Crown him the Lord of peace,
whose power a sceptre sways
from pole to pole, that wars may cease,
absorbed in prayer and praise.
His reign shall know no end;
and round his pierced feet
fair flowers of Paradise extend
their fragrance ever sweet.

Crown him the Lord of love;
behold his hands and side,
rich wounds yet visible above,
in beauty glorified.
All hail, Redeemer, hail!
for thou hast died for me;
thy praise shall never, never fail
throughout eternity.

*The Gospel

Sermon

*Affirmation of our Faith – A New Creed (1968)

We are not alone, we live in God’s world.
We believe in God: who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, who works in us and others by the Spirit. We trust in God.
We are called to be the Church: to celebrate God’s presence, to live with respect in Creation, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope. In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us.
We are not alone. Thanks be to God.

GOD INVITES US TO RESPOND IN FAITH AND HOPE

Prayers of the People
PWRDF/Mission and Service story

Prayer leader: Lord Jesus
Response: Reign among us in love.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Peace
The peace of Christ be always with you.
And also with you.
(We share a sign of peace with one another)

Invitation to the Offering

*Offertory Hymn: VU 273 The King of Love (verses 1,3, 4, 6)

The King of love my shepherd is,
whose goodness faileth never;
I nothing lack if I am his,
and he is mine for ever.

Perverse and foolish oft I strayed,
but yet in love he sought me,
and on his shoulder gently laid,
and home rejoicing brought me.

In death's dark vale I fear no ill
with thee, dear Lord, beside me;
thy rod and staff my comfort still,
thy cross before to guide me.

And so through all the length of days
thy goodness faileth never:
Good Shepherd, may I sing thy praise
within thy house for ever.

*Response: VU 542 We Give You But Your Own

We give you but your own,
what e’er the gift may be;
all that we have is yours alone,
We give it gratefully.

Prayer over the Gifts

Hymn: MV 106  I Am the Dreamer

I am the dream and you the dreamer.
I am the song and you are the rhyme.
You are the tune sung in ev’ry silence.
You are the now in the endless stream of time.

I am the bell and you the silence.
You are the yearning I cannot curtail.
I am the blest and you the blessing.
You are the wilds in which I lose my trail.

You are the word and I the echo.
You are the leader and I am the led.
You are the joy and I the laughter.
You are the Rock on which I lay my head.

 Words: S. Curtis Tufts; Music: Rick Gunn
