The Gathering of the Community
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.
And also with you.
Almighty God,
to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.
*Hymn VU 6 A Candle is Burning v 1
A candle is burning, a flame warm and bright,
a candle of hope in December’s dark night.
While angels sing blessings from heaven’s starry sky
our hearts we prepare now, for Jesus is nigh.
Words: Sandra Dean
Advent Candle Lighting
Today we kindle the Advent candle of hope. (The first candle is lit.)
We welcome the light that pierces the shadows, the light that affirms God’s presence, the light that enables us to move forward in faith.
Come, Holy Stranger, beacon of hope on this Advent journey: welcome us as we welcome you.
We receive the light of hope.
Collect of the Day
Jesse Tree- Cedar of Lebanon
The Proclamation of the Word
HutÅ‚ilala's! Let us listen as God’s Word is proclaimed!
First Reading Jeremiah 33:14-16
…The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Psalm 25 VU 752 Refrain 2
Refrain: To you, O God, I lift my soul, to you I lift my soul.
To you, O God, I lift my soul; my God, in you I trust. Let me not be put to shame, nor let my foes gloat over me.
Let none who wait for you be shamed; let them be shamed who wantonly break faith.
Show me your ways; teach me your paths.
Lead me in your truth and teach me; for you are God my saviour. For you I wait all the day long.
R: To you, O God, I lift my soul, to you I lift my soul.
Remember your mercy, O God, and your steadfast love, for they are as old as time.
Do not remember the sins and offences of my youth. According to your steadfast love remember me, for your goodness’ sake, O God!
R: To you, O God, I lift my soul, to you I lift my soul.
You are upright and good, O God, therefore you show the path to those who go astray.
You guide the humble to do what is right, and teach the lowly your way.
All your ways are loving and sure
for those who keep your covenant and commandments.
R: To you, O God, I lift my soul, to you I lift my soul.
Epistle 1 Thessalonians 3:9-13
...The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
*Hymn MV 220 *Hope Shines as the Solitary Star
Hope shines as the solitary star.
Faith is the inner light.
You and I together mirror the Light of Lights,
and illumine the pathway home.
Peace shines as the solitary star.
Faith is the inner light.
You and I together mirror the Light of Lights,
and illumine the pathway home.
Joy shines as the solitary star.
Faith is the inner light.
You and I together mirror the Light of Lights,
and illumine the pathway home.
Love shines as the solitary star.
Faith is the inner light.
You and I together mirror the Light of Lights,
and illumine the pathway home.

Reflection
*Hymn VU 2 Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus
Come, thou long-expected Jesus
born to set thy people free;
from our fears and sins release us,
let us find our rest in thee.
Israel's strength and consolation,
hope of all the earth thou art,
dear desire of every nation,
joy of every longing heart.
Born thy people to deliver,
born a child and yet a king,
born to reign in us forever,
now thy gracious kingdom bring.
By thine own eternal Spirit
rule in all our hearts alone;
by thine all-sufficient merit
raise us to thy glorious throne.
Affirmation of our Faith- Hear O Israel
Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first and the great commandment. The second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.
Prayers of the People
Response: hear our prayer.
Confession
…a moment of silence…Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Holy name. Amen.
Absolution
The Peace
Friends, Christ is our Peace, our infinite Peace. May the peace of God be always with you.
And also with you.
(We all share a sign of peace together.)
THE SACRED MEAL IS SHARED

I am walking a path of hope,
I am walking a path of hope,
lead me home,lead me home.
I am walking a path of peace,
I am walking a path of peace,
I am walking a path of peace,
lead me home, lead me home.
I am walking a path of joy,
I am walking a path of joy,
I am walking a path of joy,
lead me home, lead me home.
I am walking a path with love,
I am walking a path with love,
I am walking a path with love,
lead me home, lead me home.

*Response VU 540 Grant Us, God, the Grace
Grant us, God, the grace of giving,
with a spirit large and free,
that ourselves and all our living
we may offer faithfully.
*Prayer over the Gifts
Eucharist Prayer, by Salal and Cedar, adapted.
May God be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to God.
Let us give thanks to God our creator.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
It is right in all times and in all places to thank and praise you Creator of all. ...
...may rejoice to behold his appearing.
Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your name.
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
We give thanks to you for Jesus, whose first bed was a feed trough....
.... All honour and glory are yours, †Creator, Christ and Spirit, now and forever. Amen.
Lord’s Prayer
And now as our Saviour has taught us, we are bold to pray,
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
Breaking of the Bread
“I am the bread of life,” says the Lord. “Whoever comes to me will never be hungry; whoever believes in me will never thirst.”
Taste and see that the Lord is good; happy are they who trust in him!
Communion
The gifts of God for the People of God.
Thanks be to God.
The elements are given out and we celebrate communion as one.
Jesus Christ, the bread of Life.
(We take the host/bread)
Jesus Christ the cup of our salvation.
(We take the wine/juice)
Prayer after Communion
*Hymn VU 220 Praise to the Lord, the Almighty
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, who rules all creation;
O my soul, praise him, at all times your health and salvation.
Come, all who hear, brothers and sisters draw near,
joining in glad adoration.
Praise to the Lord, above all things so mightily reigning,
keeping us safe at his side, and so gently sustaining.
Have you not seen, how all you needed has been
met by God's gracious ordaining?
Praise to the Lord, who will prosper our work and defend us;
surely his goodness and mercy shall daily attend us:
ponder anew what the Almighty can do
who out of love will befriend us.
Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me adore him!
All that has life and breath come now with praises before him!
Let the Amen sound from God's people again:
gladly with praise we adore him.
*Doxology
Glory to God,
whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever. Amen.
*Blessing
*Three-fold Amen
*Dismissal
