THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with us all.
Amen.
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful; and kindle in us the fire of your love.
Amen. Alleluia!

*Hymn: VU 216 Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above

Sing praise to God who reigns above,
the God of all creation,
the God of power, the God of love,
the God of our salvation;
with healing balm my soul is filled,
and every faithless murmur stilled:
to God all praise and glory!

What God's almighty power hath made,
God's gracious mercy keepeth:
by morning glow or evening shade
God's watchful eye ne'er sleepeth;
within the shelter of God's might,
lo! all is just and all is right:
to God all praise and glory!

Our Lord is never far away,
but through all grief distressing,
an ever present help and stay,
our peace and joy and blessing;
as with a mother's tender hand,
God gently leads the chosen band:
to God all praise and glory!

Thus all my gladsome way along,
I sing aloud thy praises
that all may hear the grateful song
my voice unwearied raises.
Be joyful in your God, my heart!
Both soul and body take your part:
to God all praise and glory!

Collect

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED
Hutłilala's! Listen deeply as scripture is read, the Word proclaimed.
Amen.

Hebrew Scripture: 2 Samuel 5: 1-5, 9-10

Psalm 48: VU 772
Refrain: Glorious things of you are spoken, Zion, city of our God.
Great is God, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God.
Fair and lofty is God’s holy mountain; it is the joy of all the earth.
On Mount Zion, in the far north, stands the city of the Great Ruler;
In the citadels God is known as a sure defence.
R: Glorious things of you are spoken, Zion, city of our God.

See how the rulers assembled; they raged together against it.
But when they saw it, they were astounded; they were dismayed and ready to flee.
Trembling came upon them, as anguish comes to a woman in childbirth;
as when the east wind blows and breaks up the ships of Tarshish.
As we have heard, so have we seen,
In the city of the God of hosts, the city our God upholds forever.
R: Glorious things of you are spoken, Zion, city of our God.

We remember your steadfast love, O God, as we gather in your temple.
Your name, like your praise, reaches to the ends of the earth.
Your right hand is filled with victory.
Let Mount Zion rejoice, and the children of Judah be glad because of your judgements.
Go in procession around the circuit of Zion, count the number of its towers,
Take notes of its ramparts, examine its citadel,
so that you may tell the next generation:
“Such is our God, our guide for ever.”
R: Glorious things of you are spoken, Zion, city of our God.

Epistle: 2 Corinthians 12: 2-10

*Hymn: VU 266 Amazing Grace

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost but now am found,
was blind, but now I see.

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
and grace my fears relieved;
how precious did that grace appear
the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come;
‘tis grace that brought me safe thus far,
and grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me,
this word my hope secures;
God will my shield and portion be
as long as life endures.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
bright shining as the sun,
we’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
than when we’d first begun.

May God be with you!
And also with you!
The Holy Gospel of Jesus the Christ according to Mark.
Glory to you, Christ our Saviour.
*Gospel: Mark 6: 1-13
The Gospel of Christ.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ

*Offertory Hymn:
VU 481 Sent Forth by God’s Blessing

Sent forth by God’s blessing, our true faith confessing,
the people of God from His dwelling take leave.
The supper is ended, O now be extended
the fruits of this service to all who believe.
The seed of Christ's teaching, receptive souls reaching,
shall blossom in action for God and for all.
God's grace did invite us, God's love shall unite us
to work for the kingdom and answer its call.

With praise and thanksgiving to God ever-living,
the tasks of our everyday life we will face.
Our faith ever sharing, in love ever caring,
embracing God's children of each tribe and race.
With your feast you feed us, with your light now lead us;
unite us as one in this life that we share.
Then may all the living with praise and thanksgiving
Give honour to Christ and the name that we bear.

Words: Omer Westendorf, Music: Welsh folk tune; harm. Leland Bernhard Sateren

*Offering Response:
VU 541 Praise God from Whom All Blessings

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
praise God, all creatures high and low;
give thanks to God in love made known:
Creator, Word and Spirit One! Amen

Prayer over the Gifts
God of heaven and earth, receive our sacrifice of praise, and strengthen us for the perfect freedom of your service, through Christ Jesus our Saviour. Amen.

*The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

*Hymn: VU 639 One More Step Along the World I Go

One more step along the world I go,
one more step along the world I go,
from the old things to the new,
keep me travelling along with you:
And it's from the old I travel to the new;
keep me travelling along with you.

Round the corners of the world I turn,
more and more about the world I learn;
all the new things that I see
you'll be looking at along with me.
And it's from the old I travel to the new;
keep me travelling along with you.

As I travel through the bad and good,
keep me travelling the way I should;
where I see no way to go
you'll be telling me the way, I know:
And it's from the old I travel to the new;
keep me travelling along with you.

Give me courage when the world is rough,
keep me loving though the world is tough;
leap and sing in all I do,
keep me travelling along with you:
And it's from the old I travel to the new;
keep me travelling along with you.

You are older than the world can be,
you are younger than the life in me,
ever old and ever new,
keep me travelling along with you:
And it's from the old I travel to the new;
keep me travelling along with you.

Words and music: Sydney Carter.

The Blessing and Dismissal
May God bless us and keep us. May God’s face shine on us and be gracious to us. May God look upon us with favour and grant us peace, in the name of the Holy Trinity. Amen.

Glory to God,
whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever. Amen.

May the God of peace enable us to do their will in every kind of goodness, working in us what pleases them, through Christ, to whom be the glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Thanks be to God. Alleluia! Gilakas’la!

Three-fold Amen
