THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD

Call to Worship
Come to God’s house with joy!
We will praise God with heart and voice.
Come humbly to God’s house!
The Holy One has given us everything.
Our lives and our living are in God’s hands.
Come to God’s house with wonder!
Earth and everything in it—every rock and ocean,
every insect and animal, every flower and tree,
every person has their origin in God.
Come to God’s house with thanksgiving!
We will respond to the quiet voice of God.
We believe that God has work for us to do.

Opening Prayer
When we act with integrity,
God motivates us.
When we are not afraid to speak the truth,
God gives us just and healing words.
When we are faithful to the way of Jesus,
God gives us the strength to follow.
When we are disparaged because of our faith,
God supports us and shows us the relevance of what we believe.
God never leaves us.
In time and beyond time, we belong to God. Amen.

*Hymn: VU 245 Praise the Lord with the Sound of Trumpet

Praise the Lord with the sound of trumpet,
praise the Lord with the harp and lute,
praise the Lord with the gentle sounding flute.
Praise the Lord in the field and forest,
praise the Lord in the city square,
praise the Lord any time and anywhere.
Praise the Lord in the wind and sunshine,
praise the Lord in the dark of night,
praise the Lord in the rain or snow, or in the morning light.
Praise the Lord in the deepest valley,
praise the Lord on the highest hill,
praise the Lord, never let your voice be still.

Praise the Lord with the crashing cymbal,
praise the Lord with the pipe and string,
praise the Lord with the joyful songs you sing.
Praise the Lord on a weekday morning,
praise the Lord on a Sunday noon,
praise the Lord by the light of sun or moon.
Praise the Lord in the time of sorrow,
praise the Lord in the time of joy,
praise the Lord every moment, nothing let your praise destroy.
Praise the Lord in the peace and quiet,
praise the Lord in your work or play,
praise the Lord everywhere in every way!

Prayer of the Day

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED
Hutlilala’s! Listen deeply as Scripture is read.
Hebrew Scriptures: 2 Samuel 6: 1-5; 12b-19

Psalm 24 VU 751
Refrain: Lift up your heads, that God who rules in glory enter may.
The earth is God’s, and all that is in it;
For God founded it upon the seas, planted it firm over the waters beneath.
R: Lift up your heads, that God who rules in glory enter may.

Who may ascend the mountain of God? Who may stand in Gods holy place?
Those who have clean hands and a pure heart, who have not set their minds on deceit, nor made false promises;
they shall receive God’s blessing, righteous ness from the God who will save them.
Such are those who seek God, who seek the face of the God of Jacob.
R: Lift up your heads, that God who rules in glory enter may.

Lift up your heads, you gates!
Lift yourselves up, you everlasting doors, that the One who rules in glory may enter.
Who rules in glory?
It is God, valiant and strong, God, who is mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, you gates!
Lift yourselves up, you everlasting doors, that the One who rules in glory may enter.
Who rules in glory?
It is God of Hosts, God who rules in glory.
R: Lift up your heads, that God who rules in glory enter may.

Refrain words: Andrew Mitchell Thomson, Arrangement: F.R.C. Clarke.

Epistle Reading: Ephesians 1: 3-14

*Hymn: MV 135 Called by Earth and Sky

Called by earth and sky,
promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust,
treasure of life sanctified,
called by earth and sky.

Precious these waters, endless seas,
deep ocean’s dream,
waters of healing, rivers of rain,
the wash of love again.

Called by earth and sky,
promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust,
treasure of life sanctified,
called by earth and sky.

Precious this gift, the air we breathe;
wind born and free.
Breath of the Spirit, blow through this place,
our gathering and our grace.

Called by earth and sky,
promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust,
treasure of life sanctified,
called by earth and sky.

Precious these mountains, ancient sands;
vast and fragile land.
Seeds of our wakening, rooted and strong,
Creation’s faithful song.

Called by earth and sky,
promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust,
treasure of life sanctified,
called by earth and sky.

Precious the fire that lights our way,
bright dawning day.
Fire of passion, sorrows undone,
our faith and justice one.

Called by earth and sky,
promise of hope held high.
This is our sacred living trust,
treasure of life sanctified,
called by earth and sky.

Words and music: Pat Mayberry

*Gospel: Mark 6: 14-29
Hear what the Spirit is saying to the church.
Thanks be to God.

Sermon Reflection

A New Creed
We are not alone, we live in God’s world.

We believe in God: who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, who works in us and others by the Spirit.

We trust in God. We are called to be the Church: to celebrate God’s presence, to live with respect in Creation, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope. In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God.

Prayers of the People
Minute for Mission/ PWRDF
At the words: “let us give thanks”:
We respond: “we give you thanks, blessed Spirit.”

Peace
The peace of God be always with you!
And also with you!

*Hymn: VU 460 All Who Hunger

All who hunger gather gladly;
holy manna is our bread.
Come from wilderness and wandering.
Here, in truth, we will be fed.
You that yearn for days of fullness,
all around us is our food.
Taste and see the grace eternal.
Taste and see that God is good.

All who hunger, never strangers;
seeker, be a welcome guest.
Come from restlessness and roaming.
Here, in joy, we keep the feast.
We that once were lost and scattered
in communion’s love have stood.
Taste and see the grace eternal.
Taste and see that God is good.

All who hunger, sing together;
Jesus Christ is living bread.
Come from loneliness and longing.
Here, in peace, we have been led.
Blest are those who from this table
live their days in gratitude.
Taste and see the grace eternal.
Taste and see that God is good.

Words: Sylvia G. Dunstan, Music: William Moore,

VU 541 Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
praise God, all creatures high and low;
give thanks to God in love made known:
Creator, Word and Spirit One! Amen

*Prayer over the Gifts

THE SACRED MEAL IS SHARED

The Spirit of God be with you all.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts;
we lift them to God.
Give thanks to our God!
All our thanks, all our praise.

Blessed are you, gracious God, Creator of light, Giver of all life, Source of love.... ... So it is that we join the song of all creation to proclaim your goodness:

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord,
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord,
God of power and might,
God of power and might,
Heaven and earth are full
Heaven and earth are full
Are full of your glory.
Are full of your glory.

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord,
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord,
God of power and might,
God of power and might,
Heaven and earth are full
Heaven and earth are full
Are full of your glory.
Are full of your glory.

Blessed is the One who comes
Blessed is the One who comes
in the name of the Lord!
in the name of the Lord!
Hosanna in the highest!
Hosanna in the highest!
Hosanna in the highest!
Hosanna in the highest!
Hosanna in the highest!
Hosanna in the highest!
in the highest!

Mighty and tender God, in Jesus of Nazareth we recognize ... ...Grant that, in praise and thanksgiving, we may so offer ourselves to you that our lives may proclaim the mystery of faith:
Christ has died. Christ has risen. Christ will come again.

Send, O God, your Holy Spirit... ...we praise you. Through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory is yours, God most holy, now and forever.
Amen.

*The Lord’s Prayer
And now, as our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen

Breaking the Bread/ Filling the Cup
The bread of freedom.
The cup of solidarity.
(Please remain in your seat, communion will be brought to you.)

Sharing of the elements
As we share the bread, we recall that God will always love us.
As we share the ‘fruit’, we recall that God will never leave us.

We give thanks that bread broken brings wholeness; That wine poured out replenishes; That time spent with the Risen Christ and one another is gift and grace. Amen.

Hymn: VU 87 I Am the Light of the World

“I am the light of the world!
You people come and follow me!”
If you follow in love you'll learn the mystery
of what you were meant to do and be.

When the song of the angels is stilled,
when the star in the sky is gone,
when the kings and the shepherds have found their way home,
the work of Christmas is begun:

“I am the light of the world!
You people come and follow me!”
If you follow in love you'll learn the mystery
of what you were meant to do and be.

To find the lost and lonely one,
to heal the broken soul with love,
to feed the hungry children with warmth and good food,
to feel the earth below, the sky above!

“I am the light of the world!
You people come and follow me!”
If you follow in love you'll learn the mystery
of what you were meant to do and be.

To free the prisoner from all chains,
to make the powerful care,
to rebuild the nations with strength of good will,
to see God's children everywhere!

“I am the light of the world!
You people come and follow me!”
If you follow in love you'll learn the mystery
of what you were meant to do and be.

To bring hope to every task you do,
to dance at a baby's new birth,
to make music in an old person's heart,
and sing to the colours of the earth!

“I am the light of the world!
You people come and follow me!”
If you follow in love you'll learn the mystery
of what you were meant to do and be.

Words and music: Jim Strathdee.

Go from here in the strength of God’s love.
When we stand for God’s way, we stand our ground. We will speak out for justice. In the way of God’s chosen one, we will confront the abuse of power. We will recognize the trap of the easy way out And will instead work for a fair and lasting resolution. When we feel most vulnerable, We will look to the example of Jesus.
You will go forward unafraid.
We go in the strength of God’s love. Amen. Gilakas’la. Amen.

*Blessing
May the God who dances in creation, who embraces us with human love, who shakes our lives like thunder, bless us and drive us out with power, to fill the world with her justice.
Amen.

Sending: MV 212 Sent Out in Jesus Name

Sent out in Jesus' name,
our hands are ready now
to make the earth the place
in which the kingdom comes.

The angels cannot change a world of hurt and pain
into a world of love, of justice and of peace.
The task is ours to do, to set it really free.
O help us to obey, and carry out your will.
