THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD

Call to Worship
Come and worship.
We come rejoicing in God’s wonderful creation. We come rejoicing in the gift of family and friends.
Come and worship.
We come rejoicing that we can give God thanks. We come rejoicing that we will be spiritually nourished.

*Hymn: VU 274 Your Hand, O God, Has Guided v.1,2,5

Your hand, O God, has guided
your flock from age to age;
the wondrous tale is written,
full clear, on every page.
Our forebears owned your goodness,
and we their deeds record;
and both of this bear witness:
one church, one faith, one Lord.

Your heralds brought glad tidings
to greatest as to least;
they bade them rise, and hasten
to share the heavenly feast.
And this was all their teaching,
in every deed and word,
to all alike proclaiming:
one church, one faith, one Lord.

Your mercy will not fail us,
nor leave your work undone;
with your right hand to help us,
the victory shall be won;
and then, by earth and heaven,
your name shall be adored,
and this shall be our anthem:
one church, one faith, one Lord.

Prayer of the Day

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED
Hutłilala's! Listen deeply as Scripture is proclaimed.

Psalm 51: VU 776
Refrain 2: In the abundance of your compassion, wash my sins away.
Have mercy on me, O God, in your great kindness.
in the fullness of your mercy blot out my offences.
Wash away all my guilt, and cleanse me from my sin.
For I acknowledge my faults, and my sin is always before me.
R 2: In the abundance of your compassion, wash my sins away.

Against you, you only, have I sinned, and done evil in your sight,
so that you are justified in your sentence, and blameless in your judgement.
Guilty I have been from my birth, a sinner from the time of my conception.
But you desire truth in our inward being, therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart.
Purge me with hyssop and I shall be clean,
wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.
Let me hear the sounds of joy and gladness,
let the bones that you have crushed rejoice.
Turn away your face from my sins,
and blot out all my iniquities.
R 2: In the abundance of your compassion, wash my sins away.

Put a new heart in me, O God,
and give me again a constant spirit.
Do not cast me away from your presence,
do not take your holy spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and strengthen me with a willing spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you.
O God, open my lips,
and my mouth shall proclaim your praise.
R 2: In the abundance of your compassion, wash my sins away.

Epistle Ephesians 4:1-16

*Hymn: VU 506 Take My Life and Let It Be

Take my life, and let it be
consecrated, all for thee;
take my moments and my days;
let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my hands, and let them move
at the impulse of thy love;
take my feet, and let them be
swift and purposeful for thee.

Take my lips, and let them be
filled with messages from thee;
take my intellect, and use
every power as thou shalt choose.

Take my will, and make it thine;
it shall be no longer mine;
take my heart, it is thine own;
it shall be thy royal throne.

Take my love; and I will pour
at thy feet its treasure store;
take myself, and I will be
ever, only, all for thee.

*Gospel: John 6:24-35
Hear what the Spirit is saying to the church.
Thanks be to God.

Sermon Reflection

Prayers of the People
Minute for Mission/ PWRDF
Sung prayer response:
O God hear our prayers, O God hear our prayers, when we cry, answer us.
O God hear our prayers, O God hear our prayers, come and listen to us.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Peace
The peace of Christ be always with you.
And also with you.

*Hymn: MV 176 Three Things I Promise

Three things I promise, Holy God,
in age and youth, in life and death:
to bless your Name, and cling to Christ,
and listen for the Spirit’s breath.

Your love unfolded time and space,
and life, and all that life became,
and so, with thankful heart and voice,
through good and ill, I bless your Name.

I follow, serve, and cling to Christ
amid our culture’s tides and trends,
for here your Name is most revealed:
Majestic Love, and Best of Friends.

Enlivened as the Spirit moves
to cleanse, awaken, and renew,
I pray that justice, peace, and truth,
may seed and grow in all I do.

If I should live when vigour fades,
and family and friends are gone,
three acts of loving faith remain
when days are slow, and work is done.

Revive and guide me, Living God,
as day by day, until my death,
I bless your Name, and cling to Christ,
and listen for the Spirit’s breath.

*Hymn: MV 213 Take Up His Song

Take up his song of peace, and go into the world.
Take up his song of peace in every moment.
In every moment of the journey, we’re laying down our lives;
Lay them down, in peace, lay them down, and take up his song.

Take up his song of hope, and go into the world.
Take up his song of hope in every moment.
In every moment of the journey, we’re laying down our lives;
Lay them down, in hope, lay them down, and take up his song.

Take up his song of faith, and go into the world.
Take up his song of faith in every moment.
In every moment of the journey, we’re laying down our lives;
Lay them down, in faith, lay them down, and take up his song.

Take up his song of love, and go into the world.
Take up his song of love in every moment.
In every moment of the journey, we’re laying down our lives;
Lay them down, in love, lay them down, and take up his song.

Words and music: Laura A Herman; arr. Robin King.

*Three-fold Amen
