GOD INVITES US TO GATHER

Lighting the Christ Candle
We light this candle as a symbol of God’s light in the world.
We share this light with others, in love and gratitude. Amen.

Call to Worship
I will bless the Lord at all times; God’s praise will always be in my mouth. I praise the Lord
Together let us lift God name up high!
I sought the Lord and the Lord answered me.
I was delivered from all my fears
Those who look to God will shine; their faces are never ashamed
On every side, the Lord’s messenger protects those who honour God
And God delivers them.
Taste and see how good the Lord is!
The one who takes refuge in God is truly happy!
Let us share in worship as we invite God into our midst.

Opening Prayer

*Hymn: MV 79 Spirit, Open our Hearts

Spirit, open my heart
to the joy and pain of living.
As you love may I love,
in receiving and in giving,

Spirit, open my heart.
God, replace my stony heart
with a heart that’s kind and tender.
All my coldness and fear
to your grace I now surrender.

Spirit, open my heart
to the joy and pain of living.
As you love may I love,
in receiving and in giving,

Spirit, open my heart.
Write your love upon my heart
as my law, my goal, my story.
In each thought, word, and deed,
may my living bring you glory.

Spirit, open my heart
to the joy and pain of living.
As you love may I love,
in receiving and in giving,

Spirit, open my heart.
May I weep with those who weep,
share the joy of sister, brother.
In the welcome of Christ,
may we welcome one another.

Spirit, open my heart
to the joy and pain of living.
As you love may I love,
in receiving and in giving,
Spirit, open my heart.

Words: Ruth Duck

*Passing of the Peace
Let us rise and greet one another with peace.
The peace of Christ be with you.
And also with you.

Prayer for Transformation

Theme Time

*Hymn VU 228 Sing Praises to God

Sing praises to God! Sing praise in the height;
rejoice in God's word, blest angels of light;
high heavens, recalling by whom you were made,
come, offer your worship in brightness arrayed.

Sing praises to God! Sing praise upon earth,
in tuneful accord, you saints of new birth;
praise God, who has brought you rich grace from above,
and showered your life with abundance of love.

Sing praises to God! all things that give sound,
each jubilant chord re-echo around;
loud organs, your glory tell out in deep tone,
and trumpets, the story of what God has done.

Sing praises to God! Thanksgiving and song
be ever outpoured, all ages along:
for love in creation, for hope spread abroad,
for grace of salvation, sing praises to God.

WE LISTEN FOR GOD'S VOICE
Hutłilala's! Listen deeply as Scripture is proclaimed.
Loving God, you speak to us in so many ways.
Speak to us now through the reading of the scriptures.

Focus Scripture: Job 42:1-6, 10-17
Job’s second response

This is the trustworthy witness of God’s faithful people through the ages,
The divine word to us today. Amen.

Sermon – Rev. Doug Goodwin

GOD INVITES US TO RESPOND IN FAITH AND HOPE

Invitation to the Offering

*Hymn VU 562 Jesus Calls Us

Jesus calls us; o’er the tumult
of our life’s wild restless sea,
day by day his clear voice sounding,
saying, “Christian, follow me.”

Long ago apostles heard it
by the Galilean lake,
turned from home and toil and kindred,
leaving all for Jesus’ sake.

Jesus calls us from the worship
of the vain world’s golden store,
from each idol that would keep us,
saying, “Christian, love me more.”

In our joys and in our sorrows,
days of toil and hours of ease,
still he calls, in cares and pleasures,
“Christian, love me more than these.”

Jesus calls us: by your mercies,
Saviour, may we hear your call,
give our hearts to your obedience,
serve and love you best of all.

*Offering Response MV 191 What Can I Do

What can I do? What can I bring?
What can I say? What can I sing?
I’ll sing with joy. I’ll say a prayer
I’ll bring my love, I’ll do my share.

Prayer of Dedication

Prayers of the People
When we pray together in community, the concerns of each of us, spoken or unspoken, are shared by all of us. Let us pray.

We gather all of our prayers into one, as we pray in Jesus’ name and in Jesus’ way, saying each in the language of our hearts…
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

*Hymn MV 161 I Have Called You by Your Name

I have called you by your name, you are mine;
I have gifted you and ask you now to shine.
I will not abandon you; all my promises are true.
You are gifted, called and chosen; you are mine.

I will help you learn my name as you go;
read it written in my people, help them grow.
Pour the water in my name, speak the word your soul can claim,
offer Jesus’ body given long ago.

I know you will need my touch as you go;
feel it pulsing in creation’s ebb and flow.
Like the woman reaching out, choosing faith in spite of doubt,
hold the hem of Jesus’ robe, then let it go.

I have given you a name, it is mine;
I have given you my Spirit as a sign.
With my wonder in your soul, make my wounded children whole;
go and tell my precious people they are mine.

WE GO INTO THE WORLD TO SHARE GOD'S LOVE

Sending Forth
This day, the Spirit of God waits on the threshold of our experience,
Waits to be embodied as always, in responsive human lives.
So, let us renew our commitment to be the vehicles of that Spirit,
And let us go forth with joy, to set that Spirit free in our daily living.
Thanks be to God. Amen. Gilakas’la.

*Three-fold Amen
