THE GATHERING OF THE COMMUNITY
Call To Worship
Bless the Lord at all times.
God’s praise will always be on our lips.
Make great the name of God.
We will lift up God’s holy name together.
For the Lord is our God, the Lord alone.
We will love the Lord with heart, mind, soul, and strength and praise God now and always.
*Hymn: VU 378 Spirit of God, Descend upon My Heart
Spirit of God, descend upon my heart;
wean it from earth, through all its pulses move;
stoop to my weakness, strength to me impart,
and make me love you as I ought to love.
I ask no dream, no prophet ecstasies,
no sudden rending of the veil of clay,
no angel visitant, no opening skies,
but take the dimness of my soul away.
Have you not bid me love you, God and King;
all, all your own, soul, heart and strength and mind?
I see your cross: there teach my heart to cling.
O let me seek you and O let me find!
Teach me to love you as your angels love,
one holy passion filling all my frame,
the baptism of the heaven-descended dove,
my heart an altar and your love the flame.
Opening Prayer
O Holy One, source of all life and ground of all love, we thank you for your love that never lets us go.
Thank you for this time of gathering and this place in which to worship you.
We do not come merely to open the doors of the church, but we come that our hearts might be opened to you and to one another.
As we worship you today, help us respond to the call of love – to love you, our neighbours, and ourselves.
We pray in the name of Jesus, who teaches us how to love.
Amen.
THE PROCLAMATION OF THE WORD
Hutłilala's! Listen deeply as Scripture is proclaimed.
Deuteronomy 6:1-9
… The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Psalm 146 VU 868
Refrain: Give your praise to God, O my soul!
Praise God, O my soul. As long as I live I will praise God.
Yes, as long as I have life I will sing praises to God.
Put not your trust in princes, nor in any mortal, for in them there is no help.
When they breathe their last they return to dust; then their plans come to nothing.
Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob,
Whose hope is in the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them,
The One who keeps faith forever,
Who gives justice to the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry.
R: Give your praise to God, O my soul!
God sets prisoners free, restores sight to the blind.
God straightens those who are bent, loves those who are just.
God cares for the stranger in the land, and sustains the widow and orphan.
But the way of the wicked God turns to ruin.
God shall reign forever, O Zion.
Your God for all generations.
R: Give your praise to God, O my soul!
Hebrews 9:11-14
… The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God
*Hymn: VU 299 Teach Me, God, to Wonder
Teach me, God, to wonder,
teach me, God, to see;
let your world of beauty capture me.
Praise to you be given,
love for you be lived,
life be celebrated, joy you give.
Let me, God, be open,
let me loving be;
let your world of people speak to me.
Praise to you be given,
love for you be lived,
life be celebrated, joy you give.
Let me, God, be ready,
let me be awake,
in your world of loving my place take.
Praise to you be given,
love for you be lived,
life be celebrated, joy you give.
Teach me, God, to know you,
hear you when you speak,
see you in my neighbor when we meet.
Praise to you be given,
love for you be lived,
life be celebrated, joy you give.
Words: Walter Farquharson, alt. R. Gerald Hobbs; Music: Ron Klusmeier.
*The Gospel
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus according to Mark.

This is the gospel of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Sermon
Affirmation of our Faith – The Two Great Commandments
Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first and great commandment. The second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.
RESPONSE TO THE WORD
Prayers of the People
Mission story
Prayer leader: God of guidance
Response: Speak into our lives today.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.
The Peace
The peace of Christ be always with you.
And also with you.
(We share a sign of peace with one another)
Invitation to the Offering
*Offertory Hymn: VU 260 God Who Gives to Life Its Goodness
God who gives to life its goodness,
God creator of all joy,
God who gives to us our freedom,
God who blesses tool and toy:
Teach us now to laugh and praise you,
deep within your praises sing,
till the whole creation dances
for the goodness of its King.
God who fills the earth with beauty,
God who binds each friend to friend,
God who names us co-creators
God who wills that chaos end:
Grant us now creative spirits,
minds responsive to your mind,
hearts and wills your rule extending
all our acts by Love refined.
Words: Walter Farquharson; Music: Cyril Vincent Taylor
*Response: VU 541 Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
praise God, all creatures high and low;
give thanks to God in love made known:
Creator, Word and Spirit One! Amen
Prayer over the Gifts
*Hymn: VU 589 Lord Speak to Me
Lord, speak to me, that I may speak
in living echoes of your tone;
as you have sought, so let me seek
your straying children lost and lone.
O lead me, so that I may lead
the wandering and the wavering feet;
O feed me, so that I may feed
your hungering ones with manna sweet.
O teach me, Lord, that I may teach
the precious truths which you impart;
and wing my words, that they may reach
the hidden depths of many a heart.
O fill me with your fullness, Lord,
until my very heart o'erflows
in kindling thought and glowing word,
your love to tell, your praise to show.
Commissioning and Benediction
Go forth as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.
We go forth to love God with all our might, with everything we have, and to love our neighbours as ourselves.
And may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit and the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
*Three-fold Amen
Dismissal
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
Thanks be to God! Amen! Gilakas’la!
