The Gathering of the Community
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.
And also with you.
Almighty God,
to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.
*Hymn VU 344 How Sweet the Name of Jesus Sounds
How sweet the name of Jesus sounds
in a believer's ear!
It soothes the sorrows, heals the wounds,
and drives away all fear.
It makes the wounded spirit whole,
and calms the troubled breast;
'tis manna to the hungry soul,
and to the weary, rest.
Dear Name! the rock on which I build,
my shield and hiding-place,
my never-failing treasury, filled
with boundless stores of grace.
Jesus, my Shepherd, Brother, Friend,
my Prophet, Priest, and King,
my Lord, my Life, my Way, my End,
accept the praise I bring.
The effort of my heart is weak,
and cold my warmest thought;
but when I see you whom I seek,
I'll praise you as I ought.
Collect of the Day
The Proclamation of the Word
HutÅ‚ilala's! Let us listen as God’s Word is proclaimed!
Hebrew: Job 1:11, 2:1-10
…The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Psalm 104 part 1 VU 826
Refrain1: Bless, O my soul, the Almighty, who rules all creation.
Praise God, O my soul.
Eternal God, you are great indeed.
You clothe yourself with light like a garment.
You spread the heavens like a tent; you lay out the beams of your dwelling on the waters above.
You make the clouds your chariot, and ride on the wings of the wind.
You make the winds your messengers, and flames of fire your servants.
You fix the earth on its foundations, so that it can never tremble
You cover the earth with the ocean as with a cloak.
R1: Bless, O my soul, the Almighty, who rules all creation.
When the waters covered the mountains, they fled at your rebuke;
at the sound of your thunder, they took flight.
They flowed over the mountains, ran down the valleys to the place you had appointed for them.
There you set limits not to be passed, that they might not again cover the earth.
R1: Bless, O my soul, the Almighty, who rules all creation.
O God, how manifold are your works!
With wisdom at your side you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. I will praise my God while I have my being.
R1: Bless, O my soul, the Almighty, who rules all creation.
Epistle: Hebrews 5:1-10
...The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

*The Gospel
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus according to Mark.
Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
….. the reading, Mark 10:35-45
The Gospel of Christ.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Reflection
Affirmation of our Faith- Hear O Israel
Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first and the great commandment. The second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.
Prayers of the People
Response: Lord, Hear and Have Mercy.
Confession
…a moment of silence…Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Holy name. Amen.
Absolution
*The Peace
Friends, Christ is our Peace, our infinite Peace. May the peace of God be always with you.
And also with you.
(We all share a sign of peace together.)
THE SACRED MEAL IS SHARED
*Offertory Hymn VU 593 Jesu, Jesu, Fill Us With Your Love
Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love,
show us how to serve
the neighbours we have from you.
Kneels at the feet of his friends,
silently washes their feet,
master who acts as a slave to them.
Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love,
show us how to serve
the neighbours we have from you.
Neighbours are rich and poor,
varied in color and race,
neighbours are near and far away.
Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love,
show us how to serve
the neighbours we have from you.
These are the ones we should serve,
these are the ones we should love;
all are neighbours to us and you.
Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love,
show us how to serve
the neighbours we have from you.
Kneel at the feet of our friends,
silently washing their feet,
this is the way we should live with you.
Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love,
show us how to serve
the neighbours we have from you.
Words: Tom Colvin; Music: Ghanaian folk song; adapt. Tom Colvin.
*Response VU 542 We Give You but Your Own
We give you but your own,
what e’er the gift may be;
all that we have is yours alone,
We give it gratefully.
*Prayer over the Gifts
Eucharist Prayer, by Salal and Cedar, adapted.
May God be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to God.
Let us give thanks to God our creator.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
It is right in all times and in all places to thank and praise you Creator of all. ...
...Therefore we praise you, joining our voices to proclaim the glory of your name as we sing,
Holy, holy, Lord,
God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full,
full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is the One who comes
in the name of the Lord.
Blessed is the One who comes,
comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
We give thanks to you for Jesus, ...
... All honour and glory are yours, †Creator, Christ and Spirit, now and forever. Amen.
Lord’s Prayer
As our Saviour taught us, let us sing,
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,
now and for ever. Amen.
Breaking of the Bread
“I am the bread of life,” says the Lord. “Whoever comes to me will never be hungry; whoever believes in me will never thirst.”
Taste and see that the Lord is good; happy are they who trust in him!
Communion
The gifts of God for the People of God.
Thanks be to God.
The elements are given out and we celebrate communion as one.
Jesus Christ, the bread of Life. (We take the host.)
Jesus Christ the cup of our salvation. (We take the wine/juice)
Prayer after Communion
*Hymn VU 342 You Servants of God
You servants of God, your Saviour proclaim,
and publish abroad that wonderful name;
the name all victorious of Jesus extol,
whose kingdom is glorious and rules over all.
God rules from on high, almighty to save,
whose Word still is nigh, a presence we have.
The great congregation God's triumphs shall sing,
ascribing salvation to Jesus our King.
Salvation to God, who sits on the throne!
Let all cry aloud, and honour the Son!
The praises of Jesus the angels proclaim,
bow down in deep reverence and worship the Lamb.
Then let us adore and give as is right,
all glory and power, all wisdom and might,
all honour and blessing with angels above,
and thanks never ceasing, and infinite love.
*Doxology
Glory to God,
whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever. Amen.
*Blessing
*Three-fold Amen
*Dismissal
Go in Peace to Love and Serve the Lord.
Thanks be to God!
