THE COMMUNITY GATHERS BEFORE GOD
In this time and in this place, we gather on the ancestral lands of the Kwakwaka’wakw peoples.
From many places and many peoples we come to this house in prayer.
In this time and in this space, we are not alone for we meet in the presence of the living God.
We meet in the presence of the living God.
In this time and in this place, we are not alone for the Risen Jesus stands in our midst.
The Risen Jesus stands in our midst.
In this time and in this space, we are not alone for the wind of the Spirit moves in and through us.
The wind of the Spirit moves in and through us.
In this time and in this place, we gather with the whole company of heaven: here heaven and earth are one.
In this time and in this space heaven and earth are one.
In this time and in this space, we gather together, one people in Jesus Christ.
In this time and place, we are one people in Jesus Christ.
In the name of God: Creator, Saviour, and Holy Spirit. Amen.

Centering Stillness
Let us hold this moment open to the Spirit of God. (silence)

*Hymn: VU 528 God of Life

God of life, in Christ you lead us,
guiding us along the way.
In our past, through joys and sorrows,
you have been our strength and stay.
Keep us faithful, true disciples,
in our learning and our praise,
celebrating past and present,
consecrating future days.

God of words and Word Incarnate,
words that challenge and embrace,
grant us boldness in our speaking,
while we know your loving grace.
Give us words both clear and winsome,
loving hearts and listening ears,
celebrating past and present,
consecrating future years.

God of music, psalms and anthems,
help us sing your faith anew:
melodies expanding worship,
harmonies enriching too.
May our lives be hymns in action,
turned to Christ in note and rhyme,
celebrating past and present,
consecrating future time.

God of days and years and eons,
still you call as in the past.
Work undone demands our labour;
justice yearns for peace at last.
Yours the vision and the challenge;
ours the mission and the praise,
celebrating past and present,
consecrating future days.

THE STORY OF FAITH IS PROCLAIMED
Hutlilala’s! Listen as God’s Word is proclaimed!
Hebrew Scripture: 1 Samuel 8: 1-22a, 11:14-15

Psalm 138 VU 860
Refrain: We worship in your holy place and praise you for your truth and grace.
I praise you, O God, with all my heart; before the gods I will sing your praises.
I bow down toward your holy temple and praise your name for your love and faithfulness.
for you have exalted your name and your word above everything.
On the day that I called, you answered me, and put new strength in my soul.
R: We worship in your holy place and praise you for your truth and grace.

All earth’s rulers shall praise you, when they hear the words of your mouth.
They shall sing of your ways, O God, sing that your glory is great.
For though you are high, you care for the lowly.
As for the proud, you humble them from afar.
R: We worship in your holy place and praise you for your truth and grace.

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve me;
you stretch out your hand against my enemies’ rage; your powerful hand delivers me.
You will fulfil your purpose for me.
Your love, O God, is eternal. Do not leave unfinished the work of your hands.
R: We worship in your holy place and praise you for your truth and grace.

Epistle: 2 Corinthians 4:13-5:1

*Hymn: VU 117 Jesus Christ is Waiting

Jesus Christ is waiting, waiting in the streets;
no one is his neighbour all alone he eats.
Listen, Lord Jesus, I am lonely too.
Make me, friend or stranger, fit to wait on you.

Jesus Christ is raging, raging in the streets,
where injustice spirals, and real hope retreats,
Listen, Lord Jesus, I am angry too.
In the kingdom’s causes let me rage with you.

Jesus Christ is healing, healing in the streets;
curing those who suffer, touching those he greets.
Listen, Lord Jesus, I have pity too.
Let my care be active, healing just like you.

Jesus Christ is dancing, dancing in the streets,
where each sign of hatred he, with love, defeats.
Listen, Lord Jesus, I should triumph too.
On suspicion’s graveyard let me dance with you.

Jesus Christ is calling, calling in the streets,
“Who will join my journey? I will guide their feet.”
Listen, Lord Jesus, let my fears be few.
Walk one step before me; I will follow you.

Words: John L Bell

May God be with you!

Sermon Reflection

Intercessions

Minute for Mission & PWRDF
World News in Prayer
In peace, we pray to you, Lord God. (Silence)

For all people in their daily life and work;
For our families, friends, and neighbours, and for all those who are alone.
For this community, our country, and the world;
For all who work for justice, freedom, and peace.
For the just and proper use of your creation;
For the victims of hunger, fear, injustice, and oppression.
For all who are in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble;
For those who minister to the sick, the friendless, and the needy.
For the peace and unity of the Church of God;
For all who proclaim the gospel, and all who seek the truth
For Anna our bishop, and for all bishops, for Carmen our moderator, and for all other ministers; For all who serve God in his Church.
We thank you, Lord, for all the blessings of this life. (Silence. The people may add their own thanksgivings.)
We will exalt you, O God our king
And praise your name for ever and ever.
We pray for all those who have died in the peace of Christ, and for those whose faith is known to you alone, that they may have a place in your eternal kingdom.
(Silence. The people may add their own petitions.)
Lord, let your loving kindness be upon them;
Who put their trust in you.
We pray to you also for the forgiveness of our sins. (Silence)
Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father;
in your compassion, forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone; and so, uphold us by your Spirit that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honour and glory of your name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Absolution

The Peace
The God who holds heaven and earth as one sent to us the Prince of Peace: peace in the Church, peace among nations, peace in our homes and peace in our hearts.
The peace of Christ be always with you.
And also with you.

*Offertory hymn: VU 472 O Jesus, Joy of Loving Hearts

O Jesus, joy of loving hearts,
the fount of life, the light of all
from every bliss that earth imparts,
we turn, unfilled, to hear your call.

Your truth unchanged has ever stood;
you plead with all to call on you,
to those who seek you, you are good,
to those who find you, life is new.

We taste your ever-living bread,
and long to feast upon you still;
we drink of you, the fountainhead,
our thirsting souls from you we fill.

O Jesus, ever with us stay;
make all our moments calm and bright;
chase the bleak night of sin away;
shed o'er the world your holy light.

*Responsive Hymn: VU 553 Great God the Giver of All Good

Great God, the giver of all good,
Accept our thanks and bless this food.
Grace, health, and strength to us afford,
Through Jesus Christ, our risen Lord.

Prayer over the Gifts

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING
May God be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to our God.
Let us give thanks to the Creator of all.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is indeed right that we should praise you, God of love, ...And so we gather around your table, with all the saints and with all Creation, we sing the hymn of your unending love.

Holy, Holy. Holy God of Power and Might
Heaven, Heaven,
Earth, Earth,
Heaven and Earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed, Blessed. The One who comes in the name of the Lord.
Blessed, Blessed. The One who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest. Hosanna in the highest.
Hosanna in the highest. Hosanna in the highest.

Jesus took bread, when he had given thanks, he broke it, ...Poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins; do this to remember me.
Great is the mystery of faith.
Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.

Recalling Christ’s death and resurrection, we ask you to accept this, our sacrifice of praise. ...Through Christ our Redeemer, in the power of the Spirit, all praise and glory be yours, Creator God, now and for ever. Amen.

Gathering our prayers and praises into one, let us pray as our Saviour taught us,
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

Sharing of the elements
We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.
We, being many, are one body, for we all share in the one bread.
The gifts of God for the people of God.
Thanks be to God.
(the elements will be distributed for common consumption)

Doxology
All your works praise you, O Lord.
And your faithful servants bless you. Gracious God, we thank you for feeding us with the body and blood of your Son Jesus Christ. May we, who share his body, live his risen life; we, who drink his cup, bring life to others; we, whom the Spirit lights, give light to the world. Keep us firm in the hope you have set before us, so that we and all your children shall be free, and the whole earth live to praise your name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Blessing

*Hymn: VU 291 All Things Bright and Beautiful

All things bright and beautiful,
all creatures great and small,
all things wise and wonderful:
in love, God made them all.

Each little flower that opens,
each little bird that sings,
God made their glowing colours,
God made their tiny wings.

All things bright and beautiful,
all creatures great and small,
all things wise and wonderful:
in love, God made them all.

The purple-headed mountains,
the river running by,
the sunset and the morning
that brightens up the sky;

All things bright and beautiful,
all creatures great and small,
all things wise and wonderful:
in love, God made them all.

The cold wind in the winter,
the pleasant summer sun,
the ripe fruits in the garden:
God made them every one.

All things bright and beautiful,
all creatures great and small,
all things wise and wonderful:
in love, God made them all.

The rocky mountain splendour,
the lone wolf’s haunting call,
the great lakes and the prairies,
the forest in the fall;

All things bright and beautiful,
all creatures great and small,
all things wise and wonderful:
in love, God made them all.

God gave us eyes to see them,
and lips that we might tell
how great is God our maker,
who has made all things well.

All things bright and beautiful,
all creatures great and small,
all things wise and wonderful:
in love, God made them all.

Dismissal
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Three-fold Amen!
